Faith-based divorce recovery groups. "Your faith has made you well." Matthew 9:22. Divorce is one of the most painful things one can go through, even a Civilized Divorce (SM). Even if you didn't like your spouse very much, you still have to deal with a lot of grieving, anger, resentment, disappointment, and so on. Everybody I know who has participated in a divorce recovery program has said it really helped to have a safe place talk about how divorce was affecting them. I haven't visited these groups, and have no endorsement of them, but here are programs I have heard about, listed in the order in which I got information about them. If the link has an asterisk (*) after it, one of my clients has personally recommended it.

  • Divorce Care -- a support group for folks who have recently divorced. I've heard good things about them.*
  • First United Methodist Church of Allen has a divorce recovery program in October. Their email and flyer had two different web addresses, and I don't know if either one has info on the divorce recovery program: www.fumcallen.org or www.fumc-allentx.org
  • First United Methodist Church of Plano has divorce recovery programs from time to time. That's where I go to church, and I recommend the program. As I write this, the program has already begun for this fall. Next class is scheduled for 6 weeks beginning on March 15, 2007. Child care available. Cost is $30 to cover written materials. I don't think the program has its own page, but the church's web site is www.firstmethodistplano.org . Here's a special program they're running this spring: Joint Custody with a Jerk

Supervised possession and exchange. If one parent has been accused of misconduct with a child, the courts will sometimes order that a parent's possession of a child be supervised. Or, when tensions run high in a divorce, tensions are lower when a disinterested third party acts as a go-between in exchanges of custody. I know there's a place in McKinney, but I don't have any information on that just yet. There's Hannah's House, in Irving, and now in Plano. And there's A Family Affair Supervised Visitations, with locations in Dallas, Collin, and Tarrant counties, and they do on and off site visitations. Let me know if you know of more such places.

State Bar of Texas

Ozone Animation. Shows an animated map of the ozone polution activity today, or a previous day.

Jiyushinkai Aikibudo - The organization I studied Aikido with (where I got my black belt). There's info on the site on the history and nature of aikido, along with a dojo (school) finder.

Puppy photos.
